What motivates you?
The opportunity to build leaders in the Indian healthcare and life sciences industry.
What do you like about your job?
Our unique ability to provide patient, proprietary capital to companies that need long-term investment. Our global ecosystem across the US, Europe, China and Japan allows us to offer the best resources, networks and information to our entrepreneurs.
What’s been the toughest learning curve of your career so far?
It was when I started out in private equity in 2008. The industry in India was just entering its toughest period. We spent four years evaluating the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry along with several specific companies, but made no investments. In retrospect, that research and mapping was the most valuable experience for me and has allowed us to have a strong sense of exactly what we are looking for in this sector.
What current technology trend do you get most excited about and why?
Two trends excite me at the moment. The first is the growing focus on innovation in India – and more importantly for India. The second is digital health and the use of the mobile phone as a platform to connect patients to providers of healthcare products, services and information.
Your favourite qualities in an entrepreneur?
I look for someone who is willing to put the company first, has the vision to build the best, and a modesty and willingness to constantly learn and improve.
