What motivates you?

The vision of creating a better world.

What's been the steepest learning curve on your career journey so far?

Problem solving for an overseas, non-Japanese client with a team from multiple countries and diverse backgrounds. It was not a straight-forward project but provided me with an opportunity to realise the power of global collaboration.

Which technology trend are you most excited about at the moment and why?

The use of data fusion and machine learning technologies which enable data personalisation based on multiple data points. For example, in the healthcare sector, these technologies could produce a single health barometer taking into account various health data points which are monitored daily to transmit personalised warnings in case of fluctuations and / or deviations from historical health patterns.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Get yourself out of the box (and avoid self-deception).

What is the company you wish you’d backed and why?

OBS Medical, a company providing health informatics via machine learning, is working on early detection systems to produce warnings for intensive care patients based on vital signs monitoring. As I understand it, this technology could possibly be used for non-ICU / everyday consumption, enabling individuals to learn in advance if they are likely to become sick and take pre-emptive actions.
