James Lowther
James is a Director in the Principal Investments team. He supports Eight Roads' principal investing activity and seeks to drive the best possible returns from the resulting portfolio companies.

What do you like about your job?

The opportunity to find hidden champions in our chosen sectors and to put in place the capital and execution support they need to deliver on their growth aspirations.

What’s been the steepest learning curve of your career so far?

Building an appreciation of the impact of national culture on communication and decision-making and navigating these influences when supporting portfolio companies.

Which sector or sub-sector do you feel particularly enthused about right now and why?

The industrials sector. This is a very tangible sector with solid businesses that underpin the infrastructure upon which the world relies. Of particular interest, though, are those niches where disruption is likely as companies seek to leverage new materials, new technologies and new service models.

How do you think Eight Roads differs from other investment funds?

Although it is globally spread, Eight Roads manages to operate as a closely knit team. We are determined to do everything we can to catalyse success in our portfolio companies.

If you could give one piece of advice to your 20-year-old self, what would it be?

Ask for forgiveness, not permission.
