What is your role at Eight Roads?
I provide strategic advice to design overall recruitment plans, identify, interview and secure entrepreneurial candidates who can expand our ecosystem and further promote our brand and the successful stories of Eight Roads. I also help our portfolio companies to design recruitment frameworks, and implement their talent strategies.
Looking back, what’s been the steepest learning curve on your career journey so far?
As a Hong Kong Chinese who spent part of my childhood in the US and working life in Shanghai, I very soon realised being successful is not only about having hard skills but soft skills too, culture awareness combined with adaptability to new environments. What I have truly enjoyed so far at Eight Roads has been the opportunity to learn from domain experts while adapting to different cultures in parallel.
If you could give one piece of advice to your 20-year-old self what would it be?
Be (even more) patient, Rome was not built in a day and there is no limit to learning.
How do you directly support our entrepreneurs?
Using D-Uni as an example, we first began by understanding the business model of the company i.e the disruptiveness of the technology to the society, its competitive landscape, value proposition, and the background of the founding team. We then worked with the CEO to understand his five-year plan, short- and long-term objectives and to provide him with strategic advice and relevant support to successfully recruit his management team.
