What motivates you?

Enthusiasm towards unlocking the unknowns, from science, to technology, to business and people. Working at Eight Roads with exposure to cutting-edge sciences and most brilliant entrepreneurs allows me to challenge myself and advance on a personal level. 

What’s been the steepest learning curve on your career journey so far?

Transitioning from R&D to consulting. Before joining Navigant Consulting in 2014, all my previous roles were in research area. Consulting led me to the real business world and trained me in skills including but now limited to analytical thinking, problem solving and decision making.

Which tech trend are you most excited about at the moment and why?

Gene editing. An ability to alter the genetic blueprint of life and further modify the traits of living things is fascinating.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

First do it, then do it right, then do it better.

What is the company you wish you’d backed and why?

Genentech - The very first biotech company in the world. Founded in 1976, Genentech was acquired by Roche in 2009 for $46.8B, contributing to “one of the largest payoffs in history” to its early investors. Being the first mover is not easy. And the book “Genentech: The Beginnings of Biotech” is worth reading.
