What is the job you do at Eight Roads?
My role spans marketing, media relations, visual brand and portfolio support. Since joining in 2015 I’ve spent time helping to establish the Eight Roads brand from announcing new funds to developing research. Now I’m spending more time working with our diverse global portfolio, helping them raise their profiles - I’m blown away by the creativity and passion of the founders I get to work with.
Looking back, what’s been the steepest learning curve on your career journey so far?
When I started in PR I was working for a wide range of clients in a number sectors from financial services to oil and gas. I had to quickly learn to immerse myself in these businesses and find the best way to tell their stories - this meant often asking difficult and searching questions. I realised honestly and frankness can save a lot of time!
If you could give one piece of advice to your 20-year-old self what would it be?
This industry is incredibly fast paced, but enjoy the successes and don’t give yourself too much of a tough time when things don’t go your way - you can’t control everything.
How do you directly support our portfolio companies?
I often work with our portfolio companies when we first make an investment, helping them to identify key messages, draft press releases, work out their target audiences and key channels, and speak to journalists on their behalf.
